Around The Trans-World In 80 Seconds, with Demi Moore !!!

Hello to TWHL everywhere! Every now and again, I'm going to take a trip around The TWHL on a Games Day, and highlight the highlights and lowlights.

We entered GD7 with 3 winless teams, but unless there'd be a tie between The
Rome Gladiators (0-6-1) and The London Legacy (0-6-0), something would have to give!

But in fact, two things gave, as The
Santiago Peppers (0-7-0), who've been anything but hot, managed their first Win as well!

 AT
In fact,
Santiago looked like Trans-world beaters against Rio de Janeiro Rockers, going up 4-0 just 1:19 into the game!!! Talk about taking The El Placo de Itzamna crowd out of the game early! Santiago scored on their 1st 4 shots, and if there was ever a case of pulling your goalie, this was it, as The Rockers Rick DiPietro looked like he was wearing a firing squad mask on, not a goalie mask! But Rio Coach Brent Sutter left Dipietro in to face the music...

Up 5-0 before the 1/2 way point of the 1st, Peppers players must have been projecting 'How are we going to lose this one?!?' in their minds after their 0-7-0 start to the season, and they almost convinced themselves to lose again! Rio came rocking back, outshooting Santiago 9-1 in the final 10 minutes of Period 1, and scored 2 G's to get into the game.

The teams exchanged G's in the 2nd, The Rockers would then score 3 straight during the 3rd to almost pull off an amazing comeback! But Derek Morris' tally earlier in the 3rd turned out to be the game-winner for
Santiago, and The Peppers are ON THE BOARD and IN THE WIN COLUMN!

Peppers ROOKIE Centre Maxime TALBOT potted a pair for
Santiago, and has been a bright spot so far, managing 6-1-7 Pts in 8 games now. But even more impressive is his +/-, sitting +6 on a team that doesn't have another player in the positives! How ugly does it get? How about HS Nels Stewart, at -14 in only 8 games!!! Ugh... I'd say Talbot is pulling his weight! Norm Milley, Rio's leading scorer, tried his best to get The Rockers back in the game, scoring 2-1-3 Pts, but it wasn't enough.

 AT
In
London, England, where The Legacy would be hard pressed to win a game in The TWMHL, by all accounts, The Gladiators had their chance to break their goose-egg in the Wins column. And had it not been for the heroics of Legacy netminder Sean Burke, stopping 14 of 15 SOG in the 1st, and even better in the 2nd, stopping 23 of 24, London would have been down by double-digits by the mid-way point.

GOALS        1  2  3  4  T     SHOTS        1  2  3  4  T

---------------------------    ---------------------------

LONDON       0  1  1  0  2     LONDON      15 10 11  0 36

LONDON      3  08:10   Hajt         Darby, Brown

ROME        3  10:37   PARISE       Elias, Lilja

Instead,
Rome held only a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame. But four 3rd period G's, including another ROOKIE Centre getting a pair, this time Zach PARISE, vaulted The Gladiators to a 6-2 victory, their 1st of the season!

Mike Grier, who'd scored a single Assist in the previous 7 games, managed
1-3-4 numbers against London.

Though Parise, scored 2 G's as did
Santiago's Talbot, there the similarities seem to end between the two ROOKIES. Where The Peppers player is far and above anyone else on his team +/- wise, Parise can't be making Coach Turk Broda very happy with his -10 stat, while only Vernon Fiddler has a worse +/- on The Gladiators.

As for
London... what can we say. They are a farce, pure and simple, and unless they've managed to schedule an intra-squad game into The TWHL official schedule, they may go the season 0-80-0 !!! Records for ineptitude are going to fall everywhere, and there's even been talk of having the League Offices step in and take over the team before they go bankrupt from needing to pay The Heritage Centre 10 times their lease contract just to be allowed to play their games in the building!

The fact is, The
Detroit Motorcity Mustangs, what's supposed to be London's farm team, could kick The Legacy's butts all over the ice!

Expect the following Records to be targets for
London to shoot at:

Least Goals For In A Season

Most Goals Against In A Season

Least Wins In A Season
Most Losses In A Season
Largest Margin of Loss
Least Likely Team Any Player Will Ask To Be Traded To

Most Likely Team An Opponent Wants To Face When They're Struggling
Lowest Attendance
Highest Fan Suicide Rate
Most Likely Team A Player Entering Free Agency Wants To Face In
 Order To Pad Their Stats
Venue Least Likely To Run Out Of Consession Stand Items

... to name a few.

That leaves The
London Legacy (and boy oh boy, what a legacy they're leaving!) as the only WINLESS team in The TWHL, while we'd like to note:

The Berlin Black Bears are the only UNDEFEATED TEAM in The TWHL! Congrats on the nice start!

For TWHL fans everywhere, this is Demi Moore reporting; and
Moore is NEVER less!
